Description
Running superficially along the posteromedial aspect of the distal arm, the basilic vein is traced from the ulnar side of the dorsal hand and forearm toward the medial epicondyle, then proximally along the medial border of the triceps region. Posterior compartment landmarks frame its course, with the long and medial heads of triceps brachii occupying the posterior arm and the deltoid forming the proximal lateral contour. Distally, extensor tendons of the wrist and fingers lie posterior to the radius and ulna, and the vein remains superficial to the deep fascia as it ascends. Clear venous topology. Posterior mapping of the basilic vein matters when planning venous access and when teaching superficial venous anatomy beyond the classic antecubital fossa view, because the basilic often dominates medial forearm drainage while the cephalic tracks laterally.
