Description
Curled in a classic flexed fetal position at approximately 35 weeks’ gestation, the conceptus is shown with a proportionally large head, a rounded trunk, and well-defined upper and lower extremities. Distal limb detail extends to the hands with separated digits and visible nail plates, with the forearms flexed across the anterior thorax and the knees drawn toward the abdomen. A spiraled umbilical cord courses from the fetal umbilicus to the placental disc on the uterine wall, suspended within the amniotic cavity and surrounded by amniotic fluid. By 35 weeks, fetal anatomy has shifted from organogenesis to growth and maturation, and this is where surface anatomy and limb posture become clinically legible.
