Description

Centered within the male bony pelvis, the urinary bladder (vesica urinaria) sits immediately posterior to the pubic symphysis and superior to the pelvic floor musculature, its detrusor wall rendered with clear muscular layering. The ureters enter the bladder at the posterolateral angles of the trigone, coursing obliquely through the bladder wall before opening at the ureteric orifices. Surrounding landmarks include the ilium, ischium, and pubis forming the pelvic ring, with the sacrum and lower lumbar vertebrae positioned posteriorly and superiorly, and the hip joints lateral to the bladder. Spatial context matters here because the bladder is rarely taught as an isolated organ in clinical practice.
