Description
Arising from the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve (V3), the auriculotemporal nerve is traced in lateral profile as it ascends posterior to the temporomandibular joint, then turns superiorly in front of the auricle toward the temporal region. Its course is shown deep to the superficial fascia as it approaches the temporalis, running in the same corridor as the superficial temporal vessels and crossing the zygomatic arch region. Nearby landmarks expected in this dissection-style cutaway include the parotid gland overlying the posterior ramus of the mandible, the masseter laterally, and the cartilaginous external ear.
