Description

Running along the anterolateral surface of the distal humerus, the brachialis forms a broad muscle belly deep to the biceps brachii, with its fibers converging inferiorly into a stout tendon that crosses the elbow anterior to the joint line. From a lateral perspective, the humerus sits proximal and medial to the forearm bones, while the radius lies lateral to the ulna as both articulate with the distal humerus at the elbow. Distally, the brachialis tendon courses to its insertion on the ulnar tuberosity and coronoid process region, a relationship that becomes clearer when the more superficial biceps mass is conceptually “peeled back.” Bone landmarks of the upper limb and hand, including carpal, metacarpal, and phalangeal elements, provide distal orientation. Brachialis is the workhorse elbow flexor because it acts regardless of forearm pronation or supination, unlike biceps brachii which also drives supination through its radial tuberosity insertion.
