Description
Seen in lateral profile, the supratrochlear artery ascends from the superomedial orbit toward the forehead, coursing anterior to the frontal bone and emerging near the medial canthus. Its origin from the ophthalmic artery is implied deep within the orbit, where the vessel travels superiorly above the trochlea of the superior oblique muscle and medial to the supraorbital neurovascular bundle. Surrounding context includes the cranial and facial skeleton in profile, the nasal cavity and orbital margins, and a cervical spine segment inferiorly supporting the skull base. Red arterial channels and blue venous pathways trace the head and neck circulation, with the supratrochlear vessel standing out as a fine-caliber terminal branch. For clinicians, this lateral perspective is the one you want when teaching the relationship of the anterior ethmoidal region, medial orbit, and forehead perfusion territories.
