Description
Arcing anteriorly from the squamous part of the temporal bone, the zygomatic process is shown in lateral profile as it projects toward the temporal process of the zygomatic bone to complete the zygomatic arch. The animation tracks along the curved root and body of the process, keeping the external acoustic meatus posterior and inferior as a constant landmark. As the camera glides, the superior border aligns with the temporal fossa, while the inferior margin frames the infratemporal region and the passage for the tendon of temporalis deep to the arch. Palpation and surgical access often start here. The zygomatic arch functions as a rigid lateral buttress of the midface, and fractures commonly occur at the arch’s thinnest segment with medial displacement that can mechanically limit mandibular depression by impinging on the coronoid process. A moving lateral sweep clarifies spatial relationships that are hard to grasp in a single still, including how the arch overlies the temporomandibular joint region and why reductions are performed along the arch contour rather than directly over the temporalis belly. Use this sequence in head and neck anatomy teaching when introducing the temporal fossa and masticatory compartment, or in maxillofacial and ENT education to orient zygomatic arch fracture patterns and surgical approaches for elevation. It also fits radiology primers that correlate surface anatomy with axial CT findings around the zygomatic arch and external auditory canal. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
