Description
Running superficially along the anterior forearm, the palmaris longus muscle belly transitions into a slender tendon that continues distally toward the volar wrist and palm. Medially, it sits adjacent to the flexor carpi ulnaris, while the flexor carpi radialis lies more lateral, framing the palmaris longus in the superficial flexor compartment. Proximally the common flexor origin at the medial epicondyle of the humerus is implied, and distally the tendon courses superficial to the flexor retinaculum toward the palmar aponeurosis over the carpal region, with the radius lateral and ulna medial in the forearm. A medial perspective is the practical teaching angle for separating palmaris longus from neighboring tendons when demonstrating surface anatomy at the wrist crease, where its tendon can be accentuated by wrist flexion and thumb opposition.
