Posterior anatomical position frames the humerus bilaterally from the shoulder girdle to the elbow, with the shafts descending inferolaterally from the glenohumeral joints alongside the thoracic cage. Proximally, the humeral heads articulate with the glenoid cavities of the scapulae, while the greater tubercles sit lateral to the humeral heads and the intertubercular (bicipital) grooves turn anteriorly and fall out of view. Distally, the medial and lateral epicondyles flank the distal humerus, and the olecranon fossa is clearly exposed on the posterior surface just superior to the trochlea. Clear bony landmarks.
