Description
Positioned in the posterior thigh, the semimembranosus muscle is presented as the broad, medial hamstring belly lying deep and slightly lateral to the more cordlike semitendinosus. Proximally, its fibers converge toward the ischial tuberosity, while distally the muscle expands again as it approaches the posteromedial aspect of the knee.
