Description
Presented in posterior orientation, the male scapula is shown with the spine of the scapula running transversely to the acromion, separating the supraspinous fossa superiorly from the infraspinous fossa inferiorly. Laterally, the glenoid cavity sits at the expanded head, while the scapular neck lies immediately medial and inferior to the glenoid rim, where the fracture line interrupts the cortical contour. The medial (vertebral) border and inferior angle provide positional reference, with the coracoid process largely anterior but implied by the lateral column leading into the glenoid. Scapular neck fractures matter because they threaten the alignment of the glenoid relative to the scapular body, a key determinant of shoulder stability and load transfer through the glenohumeral joint. High-energy trauma is the usual mechanism, and this injury pattern often travels with ipsilateral rib fractures, pulmonary contusion, or a “floating shoulder” when the clavicle is also disrupted.
