Description
Anterior scapular anatomy is rendered with the subscapular fossa forming the broad costal surface, bounded superiorly by the scapular spine region as it approaches the acromion laterally. The coracoid process projects anterolaterally from the superior border, just medial to the glenoid cavity and its rim, where the scapular neck narrows toward the articular surface. Fracture lines radiate across the scapular body with a conspicuous break near the coracoid base, and a perifracture erythema suggests local soft tissue irritation in the setting of acute trauma. Orientation to the clavicular relationship is implied by the coracoid and acromial landmarks that bracket the coracoacromial arch. Coracoid and scapular neck fractures matter because they alter the superior shoulder suspensory complex, and disruption here can destabilize the linkage between clavicle, acromion, coracoid, and glenoid even when the glenohumeral joint remains reduced.
