Description
Posterior male hip anatomy is rendered with the gluteus minimus highlighted deep to the more superficial gluteal tissues, its fan-shaped fibers originating from the external surface of the ilium and converging laterally toward the anterior facet of the greater trochanter. Superiorly, the iliac crest frames the muscle’s broad attachment, while the posterior iliac landmarks sit medial to the gluteal mass along the margin of the sacrum and lower lumbar spine. Inferior and lateral to the pelvis, the proximal femur and hip joint region anchor the insertional footprint. Bone reads in ivory, muscle in red. Gluteus minimus matters because it is the deep abducting and internally rotating partner of gluteus medius, and weakness or denervation produces the same functional deficit, pelvic drop and the Trendelenburg pattern during single-leg stance. Injury to the superior gluteal nerve (L4 to S1), whether from posterior pelvic trauma or iatrogenic stretch, targets these abductors and can be missed when only the superficial contour is considered.
