Description
Posteriorly oriented, the model frames the dorsolateral forearm and hand, with the radius positioned lateral to the ulna and the carpal bones aligned distal to the distal radioulnar joint. Along the lateral compartment, the brachioradialis occupies the superficial radial border proximally, while extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis run distally toward the bases of the second and third metacarpals. Blue tendinous bands continue across the dorsum of the wrist beneath the extensor retinaculum, then diverge toward the metacarpals and phalanges, coursing superficial to the dorsal interossei between metacarpal shafts. A posterior perspective on the lateral fibers matters because it clarifies how the wrist extensors and radial deviators align relative to the radius, the radiocarpal joint, and the dorsal carpal compartments.
