The parieto-occipital sulcus sits superior and medial on each hemisphere near the midline, while the calcarine sulcus runs inferomedially within the occipital lobe, outlining the cuneus superiorly and the lingual gyrus inferiorly. Inferior to the cerebrum, the cerebellar hemispheres and vermis occupy the posterior fossa with tightly packed folia, and the brainstem is partially visible in the midline, continuous inferiorly toward the spinal cord.
