Seen from above, the paired cerebral hemispheres fill the frame, separated along the midline by the longitudinal fissure and bordered laterally by the convex superolateral surfaces of the telencephalon. Gyri and sulci define the cortical relief, with the central sulcus (sulcus centralis) marked in blue as it courses obliquely from the superomedial margin toward the lateral convexity, placing the precentral gyrus anterior to it and the postcentral gyrus posterior. Blue surface vessels traverse the cortex within the sulci and across gyral crowns, consistent with superficial cortical veins draining toward the superior sagittal sinus along the attached margin of the falx cerebri. Orientation is unambiguous. For neuroanatomy teaching, the superior perspective is the cleanest way to anchor lobar topography around the central sulcus and to reinforce the functional split between primary motor cortex and primary somatosensory cortex. Clinically, this is the surface anatomy you correlate with parasagittal pathology: meningioma along the falx or superior sagittal sinus thrombosis can present with contralateral leg-predominant weakness or sensory loss because the medial portions of the precentral and postcentral gyri represent the lower limb. The highlighted venous network also supports discussions of bridging veins and their role in subdural hematoma after acceleration-deceleration injury.
