Description
Oriented in anatomical position, the anterior surface of the male sacrum is shown tapering inferiorly to the coccyx, with the lower lumbar vertebrae stacked superiorly and separated by intervertebral discs. Anterior sacral foramina punctuate the pelvic (anterior) sacral surface, while the sacral promontory marks the superior margin of S1 just inferior to L5. Inferior to the sacral apex, the coccyx appears as a small, fused, triangular series of rudimentary coccygeal vertebrae, aligned on the midline and angled slightly anteriorly. Clean midline anatomy. Clinically, an anterior view helps clarify how the sacrococcygeal junction relates to pelvic viscera and to the anterior course of the ventral rami exiting the sacral foramina, a relationship often abstracted in posterior-only depictions.
