Description
Centered on the lower eyelid, the inferior palpebral venous arcade forms a curved chain of venules running parallel to the inferior palpebral margin, just anterior to the orbital septum and immediately inferior to the tarsal plate. Medially, tributaries converge toward the region of the medial canthus where they communicate with the angular vein and the ophthalmic venous system, while laterally the arcade drains toward veins of the lateral canthus that continue into the superficial temporal and facial venous pathways. Surrounding landmarks of the anterior skull and orbit remain visible, including the inferior orbital rim, nasal aperture, and maxillary dentition, providing bony reference for the venous course. Blue-coded venous channels contrast against adjacent red-coded facial arteries in the same field. Appreciating this arcade matters when you are teaching or planning interventions that cross the lower lid and infraorbital region, because the palpebral venous network provides low-resistance connections between superficial facial veins and deeper orbital veins.
