Description

Dominating the anterior (sternocostal) surface, the right ventricle lies inferior to the right atrium while the left ventricle forms the left (obtuse) margin and apex. Running obliquely toward the apex, the anterior interventricular sulcus separates the ventricles and typically carries the anterior interventricular artery (left anterior descending, LAD) accompanied by the great cardiac vein. Superiorly, the ascending aorta emerges centrally with the pulmonary trunk positioned anterior and slightly leftward, and the right atrial appendage sits anterosuperior on the right as the left auricle overlaps the proximal pulmonary trunk.
