Presented from an anterior perspective, the iris sits as a pigmented diaphragm posterior to the cornea and anterior to the crystalline lens, with the pupil as its central aperture. Encircling the pupillary margin within the iris stroma, the minor arterial circle forms a circumferential anastomosis of arterioles arranged concentric to the pupil. Radial iris vessels course from the peripheral iris toward this ring, while the ciliary body lies posterior and peripheral to the iris root, aligning the vascular circle with the adjacent anterior uveal tract. Fine-caliber vessels dominate the field. This anterior presentation matters because the minor arterial circle is a key landmark for understanding iris perfusion and the sources of bleeding during anterior segment procedures. Microhyphema after iridotomy, iridectomy, or intraocular lens manipulation often arises from disruption of small iris arterioles near the pupillary zone, and the circumferential arcade explains how focal injury can produce brisk bleeding despite the vessel size. It also supports teaching of rubeosis iridis, where neovascular fronds originate on the iris surface and can distort normal stromal vascular patterns, raising the risk of neovascular glaucoma.
