Description
Running obliquely across the anterior proximal forearm, the oblique cord (chorda obliqua) spans from the ulnar tuberosity to the radius just distal to the radial tuberosity, immediately inferior to the humeroradial and proximal radioulnar joints. The radius lies lateral in anatomical position, the ulna medial, and the cord crosses between them in a distal lateral direction. Surrounding osteology of the antebrachium is presented for orientation, including the distal humerus at the elbow, the radial head and neck, and the proximal ulna with the coronoid region and trochlear notch. Hand and carpal bones extend distally as skeletal context. Clinically, the oblique cord matters because it is a consistent anterior stabilizer of the proximal radioulnar articulation and can be mistaken for a pathologic structure on imaging when attention is focused on the biceps insertion and bicipitoradial bursa. It also sits in the same surgical neighborhood as the radial tuberosity, so it becomes a useful landmark when discussing anterior approaches to the proximal radius and repairs of distal biceps tendon rupture.
