Description
Rotating in an anterior anatomical view, the pelvic girdle is centered on the paired ilia, with the iliac crests traced along the thickened superior margins of each iliac ala from the anterior superior iliac spine to the posterior superior iliac spine. Medially, the iliac fossae slope toward the sacroiliac region and the pelvic brim, while inferiorly the acetabular cups mark the transition from the broad wing of the ilium to the proximal femoral articulation. As the sequence advances, surface landmarks around the anterior inferior iliac spine and the pubic tubercles clarify how the crest crowns the lateral pelvis above the inguinal region. Clean bony topography. Clinically, palpation of the iliac crest and ASIS anchors everything from abdominal exam orientation to procedural planning, and the animation makes those palpable relationships easier to internalize than a single frame. The crest is the harvest site for iliac crest bone graft and marrow aspiration, and its proximity to the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve near the ASIS provides context for meralgia paresthetica and for sensory symptoms after anterior iliac procedures. Clear temporal marking of each landmark supports accurate description of pelvic tilt and symmetry in musculoskeletal assessment. Use this animation in gross anatomy labs when teaching pelvic osteology, in physical therapy and sports medicine modules focused on hip and pelvic landmark palpation, and in surgical education materials for iliac crest graft harvest and anterior pelvic approaches. It also reads well in radiology teaching when correlating anterior pelvic radiographs with surface anatomy. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
