Description

Centered on the anterior midline of the bony pelvis, the pubic crest runs as a short horizontal ridge along the superior border of the body of the pubis, extending laterally from the pubic symphysis toward the pubic tubercle. As the animation holds an anterior view, the left and right pubic bones appear mirror-imaged and continuous across the fibrocartilaginous symphysis, with the superior pubic rami sweeping superolaterally toward the acetabula and the inferior pubic rami descending to meet the ischial rami at the obturator foramina. Subtle motion sequences cue orientation, bringing the crest forward as a palpable landmark and clarifying its position relative to the pubic arch and the pelvic brim. Small structure, big landmark. Clinically, the pubic crest anchors the medial attachment of the inguinal ligament (via continuity with the pubic tubercle) and provides insertion for rectus abdominis and the anterior pubic ligament, relationships that matter in groin pain workups and repair of inguinal hernia. An anterior animation helps learners track how this ridge sits immediately superior to the pubic symphysis and anterior to the bladder, and why symphyseal stress injury and osteitis pubis localize tenderness to the anterior pubic body and crest. Seeing the ridge emerge in sequence makes palpation landmarks easier to translate to cross-sectional imaging and operative fields. Use this clip in gross anatomy labs when teaching pelvic osteology, in sports medicine modules covering pubic symphysis pain and adductor-related groin injury, or in surgical education materials introducing open or laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair landmarks. It also supports radiology teaching files when correlating pelvic ring anatomy with AP pelvis radiographs and CT bone windows. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
