Description
Rotating in anterior view, the animation isolates the os coxae and brings the pubis into clear relief, with the pubic tubercle seen on the anterosuperior margin of the body of the pubis. Medial to the acetabulum and inferior to the iliac crest, the pubic crest runs laterally from the pubic symphysis toward the tubercle, where the superior pubic ramus continues posterolaterally toward the ilium. As the model turns slightly, the tubercle stands out as a palpable bony prominence at the junction between pubic crest and the superior pubic ramus. Small, but specific. Clinically, the pubic tubercle functions as a surface landmark for the superficial inguinal ring, which lies just superolateral to the tubercle in the external oblique aponeurosis, and for the medial attachment of the inguinal ligament as it spans to the anterior superior iliac spine. This relationship matters in groin pain evaluation, sports hernia patterns at the pubic aponeurosis, and in distinguishing inguinal versus femoral hernias, where the femoral canal lies inferolateral to the pubic tubercle and medial to the femoral vein. A sequential rotation makes these spatial cues easier to teach than a single still, because viewers can track the tubercle’s position relative to the acetabulum, pubic symphysis, and pelvic brim. Use it in pelvic osteology labs, anatomy lectures on the inguinal region, or surgical education content covering open hernia repair landmarks and incision planning around the groin crease. It also fits well in radiology teaching as a 3D orientation aid before correlating with AP pelvis radiographs and axial CT through the pubic rami. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
