Description

Angling into a lateral perspective on the anterior pelvis, the animation isolates the pubic crest along the superior border of the pubic body, just inferior to the anterior abdominal wall and medial to the acetabular region of the hip bone. The crest is tracked as it continues laterally toward the pubic tubercle and blends posteriorly with the pecten pubis (pectineal line) on the superior pubic ramus. Orientation cues keep the viewer grounded in anatomical position, with the pubic symphysis held at the midline and the iliac and ischial components receding posteriorly. Clinically, the pubic crest and adjacent pubic tubercle function as surface and deep landmarks for the inguinal region, where the inguinal ligament anchors from the anterior superior iliac spine to the pubic tubercle and where hernia repairs are planned around bony fixation points. The animated sequence clarifies how this short ridge sits at the junction of the pelvic ring’s anterior arch, and why subtle shifts in viewpoint can change what you identify as crest versus pecten during teaching, operative planning, or when correlating with CT or radiographic pelvic inlet outlines. Small structure. Big landmark. Use this animation in gross anatomy and musculoskeletal blocks to teach pelvic osteology, and in surgical education content covering open and laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair, mesh anchoring, or approaches that reference the pubic tubercle and superior pubic ramus. It also supports radiology primers that orient learners to anterior pelvic landmarks on axial and oblique CT reconstructions. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
