Description
Arcing laterally from the pubic body, the superior pubic ramus is followed as it runs toward the anterior margin of the acetabulum, forming the anterior boundary of the obturator foramen inferiorly. Along its superior surface the pecten pubis (pectineal line) becomes apparent as a ridge continuous with the pelvic brim, while the pubic crest and pubic tubercle sit more medially and slightly anterior. The animation maintains a lateral perspective of the pelvic girdle and steps through subtle rotation and lighting changes so the cortical contour, articular transitions, and rim relationships read cleanly in three dimensions. Small details matter. Clinically, this segment of the pubis sits at the junction of the anterior pelvic ring and the hip socket, so fractures here can accompany anterior column acetabular injuries and disrupt load transfer between the pubic symphysis and ilium. The sequence makes it easier to grasp how the superior pubic ramus relates to the acetabular rim and obturator foramen, landmarks used when classifying pelvic fractures and when planning screw trajectories that must stay extra-articular. Surgeons and radiologists think in these corridors. Use this animation in pelvic and hip anatomy teaching, orthopedic trauma modules on acetabular and pubic ramus fractures, and radiology instruction when correlating bony landmarks with AP pelvis, obturator oblique, and inlet or outlet projections. It also fits atlas-style publishing where readers need a quick spatial refresher on the lateral pubis and its relationship to the hip joint.
