Presented from an anterior perspective, the glenohumeral joint is centered on the glenoid cavity of the scapula and its fibrocartilaginous glenoid labrum, which rims the socket and increases its depth around the articular surface. Superiorly, the lateral clavicle approaches the acromial region, while the proximal humerus sits lateral to the thorax with the humeral head apposed to the glenoid. Capsular tissue encloses the joint, and the anterior capsuloligamentous complex is suggested along the anteroinferior rim where the glenohumeral ligaments typically thicken the capsule. Blue articular cartilage covers the humeral head and glenoid surface. Clean landmarks. For teaching and clinical correlation, an anterior labral view is the one you want when explaining why the shoulder trades bony constraint for soft tissue stability, and how a compromised labrum changes the concavity-compression mechanism that normally stabilizes the humeral head. The anteroinferior labrum and adjacent capsule are the typical substrate for Bankart lesions after anterior shoulder dislocation, while superior labral pathology (SLAP tears) relates to traction from the long head of biceps at the supraglenoid region and can be discussed in the same anatomical frame. This orientation also maps well to the standard anterior arthroscopic portals and the common direction of humeral head translation in instability exams.
