Description
Oriented from the inferior aspect of the male pelvis, the puborectalis portion of levator ani is shown as a thick U shaped muscular sling that curves posteriorly from the pubic body on each side to embrace the anorectal junction. Its medial fibers form the anterior and lateral walls of the anorectal angle, while more lateral levator ani components blend with pubococcygeus and iliococcygeus toward the tendinous arch of obturator internus. The ischiopubic rami and ischial spines frame the pelvic outlet laterally, and the coccygeus occupies the posterolateral pelvic floor near the sacrospinous ligament. Bony landmarks stay crisp. For continence teaching, this view earns its keep because it makes the functional geometry obvious: tonic puborectalis contraction maintains the anorectal angle, and relaxation during defecation straightens that junction.
