Description
Rendered in a lateral head and upper neck view, the cranial cavity is opened to expose the cerebral hemispheres with prominent gyri and sulci, framed by the calvaria and facial skeleton. Cranial nerves radiate from the brainstem region, coursing anteriorly through the orbit and face and inferiorly through the neck, their yellow trajectories contrasting with adjacent soft tissues. Superficial facial landmarks, including the eyelids, nasal aperture, lips, and auricular region, remain intact to anchor the internal pathways to external surface anatomy. Skin and hair provide additional orientation. For teaching neuroanatomy, this kind of cutaway is most useful when you want a direct line of sight from cortical surface to peripheral targets without the abstraction of a purely schematic diagram. The lateral perspective supports clinical discussions of cranial nerve lesions, for example facial nerve (CN VII) palsy affecting muscles of facial expression, trigeminal nerve (CN V) sensory loss across ophthalmic, maxillary, or mandibular territories, or oculomotor-related ocular motility deficits in the orbital apex. Spatial relationships matter here, because the viewer can correlate where nerves emerge centrally and how they traverse the face and neck to reach end organs. A clean way to connect anatomy to bedside findings. Use this asset in medical school nervous system blocks, head and neck anatomy labs, and neurology teaching slides that introduce central versus peripheral nervous system organization. It also suits patient-facing materials on cranial neuropathies, dental and ENT preoperative counseling, and publisher layouts that need a respectful, anatomically accurate representation of a Black adult female model. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
