Four pairs of jointed legs arise from the ventrolateral body wall, each segmented into proximal and distal articles that terminate in tarsal structures adapted for clinging to substrate. Surrounding fibers and particulate debris, consistent with textile filaments and desquamated keratin, frame the animal and reinforce its typical microenvironment. Fine cuticular patterning is visible across the dorsum. For allergists and indoor-environment researchers, morphology matters because Dermatophagoides species and related acari are identified by details of the gnathosoma, leg setae, and body proportions, not by gross appearance.
