Rendered at high magnification, the acarus (dust mite) is presented as a whole-body specimen with an ovoid idiosoma and four pairs of segmented legs projecting anterolaterally from the ventral aspect. Each limb shows clear podomere division with distinct joints, tapering distally toward terminal elements consistent with pretarsal ambulacra and claw-like structures used for traction on textile fibers. Fine setae arise from the body surface and along the legs, oriented in multiple directions, while the cuticle is shown with ridging and microtexturing that reads as a tough external integument. Dust mites matter less for their morphology in isolation than for what that morphology enables: persistent habitation of bedding, upholstery, and carpets, where they feed on human desquamated epithelium and concentrate in warm, humid microenvironments.
