Description
A right lateral projection of the maternal torso shows the abdominal wall and pelvic soft tissues rendered translucent so the gravid uterus can be read in profile. The fetus at approximately 19 weeks of gestation lies in a flexed cephalic attitude, head directed toward the pelvic inlet, with the vertebral column curved along the posterior uterine wall and the limbs drawn against the trunk. The umbilical cord loops anterior to the fetal face and abdomen toward the placental implantation site on the uterine wall, while the amniotic sac outlines the fluid-filled cavity.
