Description
Shown in lateral perspective within a sagittal section of the adult male skull, the globe sits anteriorly in the bony orbit, its posterior pole continuous with the optic nerve as it courses posteromedially toward the optic canal. Extraocular muscles encircle the sclera, with the rectus muscles running from the orbital apex toward the anterior globe while the superior and inferior obliques angle across the orbital contents to control torsion. Medial to the orbit, the nasal cavity is opened by the section, and inferiorly the maxillary sinus lies beneath the orbital floor, highlighting the thin bony partition between sinus and orbit.
