Description
Running inferiorly along the left posterior abdominal wall, the descending colon is shown in lateral profile from the left colic flexure toward its transition into the sigmoid colon in the left iliac fossa. The colonic wall follows the paracolic gutter lateral to the left kidney, with the posterior surface apposed to retroperitoneal fascia overlying quadratus lumborum and psoas major. Haustra and tenia coli define the contour as the segment descends, with the sigmoid curve turning anteromedially toward the pelvis. Clear left sided anatomy.
