Description
Arising beneath the right hemidiaphragm, the posterolateral aspect of the male liver is presented in lateral profile, emphasizing the convex diaphragmatic surface and the posterior extent of the right lobe (lobus hepatis dexter). The right lateral margin forms the transition from the superior diaphragmatic surface to the inferolateral visceral contour, with the posteroinferior edge approximating the bare area region that faces the diaphragm without peritoneal covering. Posterior orientation brings the hepatic surface into relationship with the right kidney and suprarenal gland, while the superior surface remains separated from the pleura and lung by the diaphragm. A lateral and posterior view of the right hepatic lobe matters when you are teaching why subdiaphragmatic collections can hide on routine anterior inspection and why right-sided trauma can produce occult capsular tears along the posterolateral convexity.
