Description
Acromial end of the clavicle is presented from an inferior perspective, highlighting the undersurface of the distal third of the collarbone at the shoulder girdle. Laterally, the articular facet for the acromion lies at the extremity, while just medial to it the inferior surface carries the trapezoid line running obliquely anterolateral to posteromedial and the more posterior, prominent conoid tubercle. Between these landmarks, the bone contour thickens toward the acromioclavicular region, with the clavicular shaft continuing medially out of frame. Bony relief is the message. These inferior-surface features are the attachment map for the coracoclavicular ligament complex, with the trapezoid ligament inserting along the trapezoid line and the conoid ligament anchoring to the conoid tubercle, so their spacing and orientation matter when teaching acromioclavicular joint stability and vertical displacement after a Rockwood type III to V injury. Distal clavicle fractures (Neer type II patterns) often separate the medial fragment from intact coracoclavicular ligament attachments, and this fixed viewpoint makes it easier to discuss why certain fragments displace superiorly and why fixation or ligament reconstruction must respect the native footprint. The single, inferior angle also suits correlation with palpation and with operative exposure where the surgeon works around the undersurface of the distal clavicle.
