Description
Sphenoid body anatomy dominates this illustration, centered on the superior surface where the sella turcica forms a midline depression for the hypophysis. Anteriorly, the smooth sphenoidal plane (planum sphenoidale) slopes toward the ethmoid, while the chiasmatic sulcus lies just in front of the tuberculum sellae. Posteriorly, the dorsum sellae rises as a square plate, its superolateral margins giving the posterior clinoid processes, and its inferior aspect aligning with the clivus at the spheno-occipital junction. Lateral to the sella, the carotid grooves mark the course of the cavernous segment of the internal carotid artery, flanked by the parasellar region. Pituitary relationships are the point.
