Sphenoid body anatomy dominates this lateral view of the central skull base, centering on the sella turcica with its hypophyseal fossa bounded anteriorly by the tuberculum sellae and posteriorly by the dorsum sellae. Superior to the sphenoid sinus region, the saddle contours rise to the posterior clinoid processes at the superoposterior margin, while the sloping clivus interface lies posteroinferiorly where the sphenoid body continues toward the basilar part of the occipital bone. Along the lateral surface of the body, the carotid sulcus (sulcus caroticus) tracks in an anteroposterior direction, marking the course of the cavernous segment of the internal carotid artery medial to the cavernous sinus. Orientation is unambiguous.
