Description
Arising from the conchal bowl, the antihelix forms a Y-shaped ridge of auricular cartilage that runs superiorly and bifurcates into the superior and inferior crura, separating the scapha laterally from the triangular fossa medially. Lateral to it, the helix rims the pinna, while the tragus projects anterior to the external acoustic meatus at the margin of the concha. A left-facing profile also places the antihelix posterior to the tragus and anterosuperior to the lobule, with the cartilaginous contours standing out against the skin of the lateral face. Adjacent to the auricle, a cochlear implant is visible, and this lateral perspective helps clarify how external ear topography guides surgical planning for device placement and incision lines behind the pinna. Surgeons routinely account for the antihelix, conchal cartilage, and the postauricular sulcus when positioning the receiver-stimulator and routing the lead to minimize pressure points from eyeglasses, headsets, or mask loops.
