Description
Framed in the lower male torso with the proximal thighs, the pelvic girdle is rendered with the ilium, ischium, and pubis forming each os coxae around the acetabulum, which faces laterally to receive the femoral head. Superiorly, the lumbar vertebrae and sacrum anchor the ring, while inferiorly the pubic bodies meet at the pubic symphysis and the ischial tuberosities sit posterior and inferior. Proximal femora extend distally from the hip joints, with the femoral necks coursing medially toward the acetabular sockets. Red arterial and blue venous channels track across and into the pelvis and upper leg, layered beneath semi-transparent soft tissue. Spatial relationships in this region matter because the bony pelvis dictates access and risk during procedures that intersect both skeleton and vasculature. An anterior approach to the hip must respect the proximity of the femoral neurovascular bundle to the femoral head and neck, while pelvic ring trauma can couple acetabular fractures with injury to iliac vessels and cause life-threatening hemorrhage.
