Description
Semi-transparent anterior thoracic anatomy centers on the trachea as it descends in the midline and bifurcates at the carina into the right and left main bronchi. The right main bronchus courses more vertically and slightly lateral, while the left main bronchus angles inferolaterally beneath the aortic arch region toward the left hilum, with secondary branching suggested within both lungs. Semi-opaque ribs and sternum frame the thoracic cavity, and the heart sits medial and inferior to the hila with the great vessels rising superiorly in front of the bronchial bifurcation.
