Description
Posterior thoracic spine anatomy is centered on the laminae as they extend from each pedicle and sweep medially to meet at the base of the spinous process, completing the posterior wall of the vertebral arch. The sequence isolates a single thoracic vertebra and then reintroduces adjacent landmarks, including the transverse processes laterally, the spinous process projecting posteriorly and inferiorly, and the superior and inferior articular processes at the lamina junction. As the camera rotates, the lamina’s relationship to the vertebral foramen deep to it becomes explicit, with the interlaminar interval and the spinolaminar line easy to track as the view transitions between oblique and true posterior perspectives. It is bone, but it reads like architecture. Lamina integrity matters in thoracic trauma and decompressive surgery. Burst fractures, chance fractures, and laminar fractures alter the contour of the posterior elements and can signal canal compromise even when the vertebral body dominates the radiograph.
