Description
Posterior neck anatomy is presented with the trapezius removed to expose the splenius capitis lying immediately deep and spanning from the midline cervical and upper thoracic spinous processes toward the mastoid process and lateral superior nuchal line of the occipital bone. Lateral to the midline, paired splenius capitis bellies ascend superolaterally, with splenius cervicis positioned inferiorly and slightly more lateral as it courses toward the transverse processes of the upper cervical vertebrae. The occiput and posterior cranium sit superior, while the cervical vertebral column forms the deep midline scaffold; scapulae and upper ribs provide inferior and lateral bony context at the cervicothoracic junction.
