Description

Positioned in the anterior neck, the thyroid gland is rendered in red as a bilobed, butterfly-shaped endocrine organ with right and left lobes connected across the midline by the isthmus. The lobes sit anterolateral to the larynx and upper trachea, with their superior poles reaching toward the thyroid cartilage and their inferior poles descending toward the lower cervical tracheal rings.
