Proximally, the short head arises from the coracoid process near the coracobrachialis, while the long head courses from the supraglenoid tubercle and runs distally toward the cubital fossa. Along the posteromedial aspect, the triceps brachii occupies the posterior compartment, separated from the biceps by the medial intermuscular septum. Skin is retained, so the muscle contours read as subcutaneous relief rather than fully dissected fascicles. A clean landmark. This medial perspective matters because it maps the biceps to structures that clinicians protect routinely: the brachial artery and median nerve run medial to the muscle belly, and the basilic vein and medial cutaneous nerve of forearm lie superficially in the same corridor. Distally, the biceps tendon and bicipital aponeurosis form the roof of the cubital fossa, an anatomic relationship that explains why the aponeurosis can shield the brachial artery during venipuncture, and why distal biceps rupture alters the anterior elbow contour and supination strength.
