Description
Lobulus biventer (biventral lobule) occupies the inferior surface of the cerebellar hemisphere, lateral to the vermis and bordering the cerebellar vallecula in this fixed inferior perspective. Medially it sits adjacent to the cerebellar tonsil, while its lateral margin blends toward the inferior semilunar lobule, with folia radiating in a triangular field that helps separate these neighboring lobules. The tonsils appear as paired, rounded eminences near the midline, and the biventral lobule lies just lateral and slightly anterior to them on each side. Relationship is the point. Inferior cerebellar topography matters when you need to localize lesions on MRI or during suboccipital exposure, because the biventral lobule and tonsil mark the underside of the posterior lobe near the foramen magnum and lower cranial fossa. Swelling from a posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) territory infarct or hemorrhage can distort the tonsil and adjacent inferior hemispheric cortex, a setup for tonsillar descent and brainstem compression in acute posterior fossa syndromes. Crisp separation between the tonsil, biventral lobule, and inferior semilunar lobule also supports teaching of cerebellar lobulation (hemispheric lobules versus vermian counterparts) without conflating names used across older and newer atlases.
