Description

Running from the proximal thigh to the dorsum of the foot, the femoral artery and femoral vein descend anteromedially, then continue distally as the popliteal vessels at the level of the knee before dividing into the anterior tibial and posterior tibial pathways, with fibular (peroneal) branches tracking along the lateral compartment near the fibula. Superficial venous channels, including the great saphenous vein, course in the subcutaneous tissue along the medial leg and thigh toward the saphenofemoral junction, while paired deep veins accompany the named arteries. Bony landmarks, including the femur, patella, tibia, fibula, and the tarsals and metatarsals, remain visible to anchor vessel position and depth. Orientation is an anterior, slightly medial view of the right lower limb. Anterior leg vasculature matters when you need to link surface anatomy to deeper targets.
