Description
Rotating into a superior view, the body of the pubis is centered at the anterior pelvis, where it meets the contralateral pubic body across the pubic symphysis and continues laterally as the superior pubic ramus. The sequence clarifies the junction between the pubic body and the inferior pubic ramus, and how these rami contribute to the obturator foramen with the ischium. You also appreciate the relationship of the pubic crest and pubic tubercle to the medial end of the superior ramus. Clear bony geometry. That spatial orientation matters in both trauma and operative planning. Superior pubic ramus fractures from low-energy falls or pelvic ring injuries are often described on AP pelvis radiographs, but their course and displacement make more sense when you can track the ramus laterally toward the acetabulum and posteriorly toward the pelvic brim in motion. For hernia surgeons and sports medicine clinicians, the pubic tubercle is a hard landmark for inguinal ligament attachment and for groin pain syndromes involving the rectus abdominis and adductor longus entheses near the pubic crest and body. Use this animation for pelvic anatomy teaching in gross anatomy, orthopaedics, or radiology modules that cover the bony pelvis, pelvic ring stability, and the obturator foramen. It also fits surgical education content on open reduction and internal fixation of anterior ring injuries and on anterior approaches where surface landmarks at the pubis guide incision planning. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
