Description

Anterior thoracic anatomy is rendered in an x-ray style, with the trachea descending in the midline and bifurcating at the carina into the right and left principal bronchi. The right bronchus courses more vertical and slightly wider than the left, while secondary branching outlines the bronchial tree projecting into both lungs. Centrally, the heart sits posterior to the sternum and anterior to the vertebral column, with the right ventricle forming most of the anterior (sternocostal) surface; the pulmonary trunk arises superiorly from the right ventricle, and the ascending aorta arches superior and slightly leftward.
