Description
Posterior surface anatomy of a prepubertal female child is rendered semi-transparently to map the superficial lymphatic vessels and major nodal groups as a green network beneath the skin. From the occipital scalp and posterior cervical triangle, collecting vessels course inferiorly toward the supraclavicular region and into the axillary lymph nodes along the lateral thoracic wall. Over the back, lymphatics from the posterior trunk converge toward axillary nodes superiorly and superficial inguinal lymph nodes inferiorly, with distal channels from the gluteal region, posterior thigh, leg, and foot tracking proximally along the great and small saphenous territories toward the popliteal fossa and groin. Orientation is strictly posterior, with right and left drainage territories clearly separated across the midline of the vertebral column. A rear perspective is the one you want when teaching cutaneous lymph drainage and referral patterns from the posterior scalp, back, and lower limb. These pathways matter in pediatric practice when evaluating localized lymphadenopathy after skin infection, varicella lesions, or insect bites, and they also frame how clinicians think about edema distribution in primary lymphedema presenting in childhood. Clean boundaries between popliteal, inguinal, and axillary basins make a good bridge to clinical palpation sites. A practical map.
